Natural gas output in 2016 was 136.83 billion cubic meters, rising to 188.85 billion cubic meters in 2020, a year-on-year increase of 9.8%. From January to September 2021, natural gas production was 151.83 billion cubic meters, an increase of 10.4% year-on-year.

Natural gas consumption is growing steadily

China's natural gas consumption is also increasing year by year. In 2020, China's apparent natural gas consumption is 324 billion cubic meters, an increase of 6.94%, and the growth rate is 1.76 percentage points lower than that of the same period last year. From January to August 2021, the apparent consumption of natural gas was 240.62 billion cubic meters, an increase of 16.8%.

Increase in natural gas imports

At present, there is still a gap between domestic natural gas production and growing market demand, and import has become an important way to make up for the gap between natural gas supply and demand. In recent years, China's natural gas imports have achieved steady growth, and the sources of natural gas imports are diversified. Customs data show that in 2020, China's natural gas imports will be 101.661 million tons, an increase of 5.3%. From January to September 2021, natural gas imports reached 89.85 million tons, up 22.2% year on year.
